It's who you know

I know some people that are sporting nice new jobs and internships.

Did they get it by searching an online job bank? No
Did they get it by checking the paper? No
Recruiting Agency? No
Did they check the local companies to see if they had nice opportunities? No

Well, then how did they get it?

Simple, family, and friends. Always a wonderful, and very biased group of people, who ignore so much, and give you opportunities, that people may not ever get.

It's silly, it's a tad annoying at times, but networking, and knowing the right people opens the door to a wide array of opportunities.

Making key contacts, gets your feet in many doors that otherwise would not open. Yes, you can drop an application off, which piles on top of many other applications. Knowing someone automagically puts it into the desk of the people that need to see it. It doesn't always work like that, but it has a much higher chance of being so.

For someone who is introverted, it can become a rather challenging aspect. Granted, it's all about putting the effort out regardless. Yes, it might take more effort, but the outcome is still as wonderful.
